A Note From Principal Cavazos

Dear Summitt Elementary Families and Staff,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Summitt Elementary School. I am honored to join such a strong and vibrant school community, and I look forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to support the success and well-being of every child.

I bring a variety of experiences in education, most recently serving as an Assistant Principal at TA Brown Elementary and previously at Menchaca Elementary. Before becoming an administrator, I worked as a Bilingual Instructional Coach and Curriculum Writer for AISD’s Multilingual Education Team, Bilingual Reading Specialist, and Dual Language teacher in Austin ISD. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about supporting high-quality instruction, developing teachers, and creating positive, inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.

I am especially excited to join Summitt and support its outstanding Vietnamese Dual Language program alongside its strong academic traditions. I believe that strong relationships, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential to student success, and I look forward to working together to build on the many strengths that make Summitt such a special place.

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. We also have a cat named Oliver who keeps life entertaining and reminds us to stay curious!

I am excited to continue getting to know our Summitt community and look forward to a wonderful year ahead. Thank you for welcoming me into our school family.
