Transportation and Traffic Safety

Bus Information 2022-2023

Families whose students are eligible for transportation will receive their bus information by email or letter on Aug 2nd. The district’s “Bus Stop Finder” will be live on Aug 2nd. Families whose students have special needs will receive their information in person from their bus teams starting the second week in August.

“Where’sTheBus” App for Families

AISD’s transportation team offers families the “WheresTheBus” app, which provides timely information about the location of their student’s assigned bus only, including when it will arrive at their stop.

The free app is available on any device with internet access (smartphone, tablet, personal computer, iPad)—and takes less than five minutes to install. Instructions are available at https://www.austinisd.org/transportation.

Bus Safety

Bus riders are expected to follow safety procedures while on the bus and while waiting at the bus stop. Students should remain seated when the bus is moving and follow other Summitt school rules while they are en route to and from school. Students may be removed from the bus if their behavior is inappropriate.

Bicycle Safety and Security

Bicycles are to be chained at the bike rack. Bikes should be walked when on the sidewalk. No bicycles will be allowed in the building. Helmets should be worn when riding bikes. Skateboards, scooters, sneakers with wheels or roller blades should not be brought to school.

Traffic Safety

Please be sure to obey all traffic laws- both vehicle and pedestrian. Use crosswalks when walking to and from the school. When driving near a crosswalk, ALL traffic both directions MUST stop while the crossing guard and/or any people are in the center median.

For the safety of your child, please make sure to let your child out of your car in designated areas only. Do not park in the fire zones or along the curb in the front driveway of the school. The right lane along the curb is for drop-off only. The left lane is for moving traffic. General safety rules should be observed by students and parents when loading and unloading children from vehicles. Children should not exit from the driver’s side door because of the possibility of injury. Pull forward as far as possible and then drop off your child at the curb. Finally, please remember that cell phone use while driving is prohibited in school zones.
